A friend of mine lives in a low-energy house in Belgium.

What is a low energy house?

A low-energy house is a very energy efficient building focused on a good winter and summer comfort. The heat losses are there limited because of the good isolation. is only a very small energy demand for heating and cooling. The total energy consumption of a low-energy house is average 75 percent lower than a traditional new home.

Now the house. It's a kind of cube-shaped form with a wooden finishing off. The big windows let a lot of sunshine stream into the house and the rooms flow over in each other. There aren't that much stairs and when there are,it isn't more than 4 or 5.

Now my opinion.

It's a nice house and the architect thought very good about the plan and the finishing off, but the wooden walls are not really what I like. maybe because of the sort of wood, judge it yourself, it's a question of taste. The big windows are great, you can just sit inside and enjoy the view around you. A disadvantage: it is not so private (there are curtains for sure,if you were wondering). The kitchen is open and clean and it looks very practical. Another advantage is that it is an ecologic house and better! you pay less because you consume fewer energy. Is it worth it? To pay more?

I don't know how much it cost to build a house like this and how long it takes to recoupe your investement , but I think it's a very good initiative.

This house is adventurous and progressive and conclusive:

I actually like it.
