After the independence in 1991, Azerbaijan wanted break of the long tradition of rigid Soviet buildings and this was the first step.
A building designed by Zaha Hadid Architects that expresses the sensibilities of the Azeri (Azerbaijan) culture and also optimism and courage of a country that looks into the future.

While it was being built the building looked like a strange, Star-Warslooking spaceship.

Or a tally?

And at the end it was more an oversize Roman palace, a very beautiful one.

On the plans it looked like a clean and very open building.

A big contrast between the old and checked Soviet buildings and the mighty building.

Beautiful welvings that let you think of the sea. It also gives a peacefull and calm look.
