Modern vs Classic

I took this picture int the Designmuseum in Ghent,Belgium. The museum is housed in an old hotel and there's a big contrast between the design items and the old paintings, old curtains...

Here , on the painting you see the chair behind the 'ruler' ( I don't know who's the person on the painting) and I found the contrast between that chair and the two in the front very striking. I don't know whether the reference was intended, but I thought it was really creative.

About the chairs :

Ugly colors isn't it?

And soft to sit on? I don't think so.
